Diseases Asthenopia

Asthenopia or eye strain occurs when the eyes get tired from excessive or intense use. It can be infuriating, but tends to disappear with rest. Though, it's not a serious problem, it could be a sign or symptom of an underlying problem. Asthenopia is known to make you tired, make it difficult to concentrate and to cause headaches.

Other than seeing that you need to strain your eyes to see anything, there are other symptoms to look out for such as:

• Fatigue, eye pain
• Pain around the eyes, blurred vision
• Double vision, headaches
• Burning, watery eyes
• Dry eyes, sore neck and photophobia
• Difficulty going from paper to monitor screen
• Afterimages when looking away from monitor screen

Symptoms generally begin to occur after excessive or extended computer usage, straining the eyes in dim lighting, reading or during activities that involve visual tasks. Computer Vision Syndrome, which is essentially using a computer for a long period of time, causing eyesight and vision changes, is the most common reason for strained eyes. Some other causes of strained eyes include:

• Headaches, underlying problems
• Environment, lack of blinking, being in low light situations
Underlying problems can include:
• Refractive error (uncorrected vision), eye muscle imbalance

Other Problems Due to Asthenopia
Different from the causes of eye straining, asthenopia might lead to several different problems, such as:

• Headaches, difficulty concentrating
• Irritability, lack of motivation
• Burning sensation, watery eyes
• Dry eyes, photophobia and eye pain

Homeopathy for Asthenopia
In recent years, homeopathy is considered to be very effective in treating several ailments of severe nature. Asthenopia not being severe can be easily treated by homeopathy, with the only difference that homeopathy treats the individual as a whole and doesn't target only the disease. It follows the principle of 'like cures like'.
